MNPS Data 2005-06:
- Every school has a fulltime certificated professional library information specialists regardless of enrollment.
- 88% of the elementary schools operate on a modified/flexible schedule. This is an 8% increase from last year. Forty-two of those schools are operating on a modified/flexible schedule without a support staff member to assist the LIS in the operation and management of the media center.
- Total circulation for the 2005-2006 year was 2,010,917. This is an increase of 123,965 items from last year.
- MNPS is the first entire district to have all school libraries registered as members to the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL). TEL provides databases purchased by the State of Tennessee legislature to Tennessee public schools.
- Library.Solution, MNPS library automation management system, can gather data pertaining to a specific area of the library book collection. For the first time, MNPS can provide the age range of various areas of the collection. MNPS has a total of 1,277,989 titles cataloged in the system. MNPS district averages 18 items per student with the following age ranges– Non-Fiction has a 11-20 years age range (1986-1995 copyrights), Biography has a 11-20 years age range (1986-1995 copyrights) , and Reference has a 6-10 years age range (1996-2000 copyrights). The recommended age range for these areas should not be any older than 6-10 years (1996-2000 copyrights). Fiction is not considered to have a recommended age range due to the nature and timelessness of the material.
MNPS Data 2004-2005:
- Every school, including all elementary schools, has a fulltime certificated information specialist regardless of enrollment.
- Based upon the 2004 SACS personnel requirements per enrollment at the high school level, 53% or 8 schools are meeting these requirements of employment for a certificated/professionally qualified library information specialist and support staff. 47% or 7 schools should have an additional certificated/professionally qualified library information specialist or technology specialist. These schools are currently supervised by one certificated/professionally qualified library information specialist with support staff.
- Every middle and high school has at least one part/fulltime support staff member based up SACS enrollment requirements.
- 80% of the elementary schools operate on a flexible schedule. 31 of those schools are operating on a flexible schedule but do not have a support staff member to assist the LIS in the operation and management of the media center. .
- Total circulation of the 2004-2005 year was the highest ever recorded – 1, 886,952.
- MNPS library allocation per student ranges from $7.50 to $15.00. National average allocation per student for a same size as MNPS is $34.40.
- Library.Solution is the name of the automation library management system and can provide a plethora of data for assessment purposes. This is the first full school year that this system has been in operation
