MLK Magnet School is located at 613 17th Avenue North in Nashville, Tennessee -- just a few blocks off Charlotte Pike. For specific driving directions and maps, see our Vicinity Map and Detail Map.

Please remember not to park for more than a few seconds directly in front of or on the side of the building when dropping off or picking up your child during the busy times in the morning and afternoon. Please be courteous and remember other people are there trying to get through this hectic process as quickly as possible.

Parking

Parents and students who drive to school can park in the lot directly across the street from the front of the building. Students must not park on 17th Street in front of the school during the day. Parents may park briefly on 17th Street directly in front of the building for short visits to the school. However, they should not park here during the busy drop off and pick up times.

Note: In the lot across from the front of the school, do not park in any of the spaces reserved for the parks department at any time or you may be ticketed or towed.

Parking is also available in the fenced-in lot directly behind the building. Both lots can be used for school events, such as meetings, performances, sporting events, etc.

Note: neither parents nor students should park in any parking spots behind the building that are designated for teachers and staff.

MLK Traffic Regulations

  1. Always circle the building in a clockwise direction - passenger door facing the school
  2. Pull forward as far as possible before loading or unloading.
  3. Always load and unload students from the building side directly in front of the school.
  4. Never stop, load or unload across the street from the school.
  5. No loading from the park until after 3:15.
  6. Never load, unload or stop on Jo Johnston Blvd.
  7. Never park along 17th Ave in front of the building between 2:50 and 3:30 PM.
  8. When exiting either parking lot, turn RIGHT ONLY between 2:50 and 3:30 PM
  9. Whenever possible, pull over to the curb to load and unload: NEVER double park. You may stop BRIEFLY in the second lane ONLY if you are actively loading or unloading (please ask your student to load and unload quickly.)
  10. Do not leave your car. If you have to go into the building, please park in either the front or back lot. If no spaces are available, park on 17th as far down toward the gym end of the building as possible. Do not impede the flow of traffic in front of the school between 2:30 and 3:30.
  11. Be considerate, courteous, and aware of the cars behind you!

Safety and Security

There have never been security problems for students once they arrive on campus. However, parents and students are advised to use common sense when walking in areas off the campus, including the parking lots. During busy hours before and after school, there have rarely been any problems for students or parents getting to or from the building. Caution is advised, however, when walking in dimly lit areas after hours, especially at night. We advise that in these circumstances people walk in groups or find some type of escort.
