Mission Statement
To provide students with the opportunities necessary to develop expression and creativity through training in the visual and performing arts. Research has shown that students who participate in the arts consistently score higher on standardized tests.
All instrumental courses are thorough and sequential. Objectives are proper tone production, technique development, knowledge of the best literature available and the opportunity to perform in the highest quality ensemble possible with confidence and poise. Also available are participation in All Mid State Band and Orchestra, All State Band and Orchestra, Solo and Ensemble Festivals and after school jazz bands.
Visual art objectives include a wide array of media. These consist of a sequential development by drawing in pencil, charcoal, and pastel as well as painting, linoleum printmaking and three-dimensional sculpture in clay. Art history is included as it is an essential component for the development of conceptual and higher cognitive skills. Students are given the unique opportunity to view historic art in local museums. The curriculum also includes displaying art and participation in art shows.
