Week of November 17-21
Barrack
Obama will take over the helm of the United States at a time of crises
on every front. Read an article on his
platform and on the crises he faces and write a journal in the form of an open
letter to the president elect. In your journal entry give him your best advice
on how to deal with the crises the nation faces in his first term as
president. Consider the problems we face
what your advice you will give on the following topics:
The
economy—while the oil companies make record windfall profits while charging
record prices for fuel, the people are called upon to bail out the financial
and automobile industries. Unemployment and bankruptcy are soaring.
Health
care—The United States is one of the few developed nations without
socialized medicine. Are we as a nation
able to, and should we if we are able, provide health care for all citizens at
national expense?
Foreign
Relations—We enter the second decade of the twenty-first century with
terribly strained relations with Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East.
The
War in Iraq—shall
we stay until we win, or get out soon?
Terrorist Threat—how much of a problem are
the terrorists, really? If so, what
shall we do about them?
The
Patriot Act
