In his farewell address, George Washington commented:  “…Against the  insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government...”

 

His statements have often been quoted by various people, for various reasons.  The links below give some examples of his words speaking to people over the centuries.

 

Your journal assignment for this week is to consider and comment on Washington’s farewell address in the context of the relationship the United States has with the rest of the world today.
