Visual Art

Philosophy The study of visual arts is essential for the following:

to teach children that problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer.
to teach students that small differences can have large effects.
to teach students to think through and within a material.
to help students learn to say what cannot be said in words.
to teach students that the arts celebrate multiple perspectives.
to teach students to make good judgments about qualitative relationships.
to teach students that complex forms of problem-solving purposes are seldom fixed, but change with circumstance and opportunity.
to help students apply the principles of visual art to solve problems in everyday life.
to teach students to effectively understand the world with a historical perspective through the arts.
to teach students to see, not just look.
to teach students about themselves in depth through the process of creative artmaking.
to strengthen students in the areas of math, science, reading, writing, and social studies.
to prepare students for visual arts literacy, which will help them be responsive to the world in which they live.
